Welcome to Denmead Junior School’s website, I hope that you find the information here useful.

It is my privilege to welcome you to Denmead Junior School. I was appointed as Headteacher on the 1st January 2024 and feel honoured to have been chosen to continue to build upon the success the school has already achieved.

Our school motto is ‘Be Kind, Be Brave, Be You.’ We strive to be an inclusive school - we celebrate our differences, encourage individuality and independence, and work hard every day to ensure that our school is a place where everyone feels valued and included. All staff work collegiately across the school, including with the Infant School, to drive our culture of high aspirations for all.

The needs of the children are always paramount in life and decision-making within a school and our children are at the heart of everything we do. We aim to provide a rich and varied curriculum through our wonderful and unique learning environments and extensive facilities. Our school curriculum is designed to motivate and excite our children, as well as to provide them with the knowledge, skills and personal traits and dispositions they need to be fully equipped and empowered to embrace their future. Teachers from all classes have PPA together, planning the same curriculum and experiences, including trips and residential visits, which are attended as a year group.

We encourage learning outside the classroom through visits to places of interest, utilising the beautiful Hampshire countryside, panoramic coastline, and the impressive naval heritage on our doorstep. Our natural, tree-enclosed environments offer all learners, from Year 3 to Year 6, regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences outside the classroom. Our Forest School and our outdoor nature space hosts a full outdoor classroom, a performance stage, orchard and raised planter beds which the children use to grow and sell their own crops. This whole area is accessed by all children routinely as part of our curriculum.

We have an open-door policy as we believe it is crucial to involve children and their families as partners in their education.  Our aim is to build a whole school community which thrives on mutual respect and values positive relationships. As a school, we know how vital working in partnership with parents is for our children to find school a rewarding and safe place to learn. As key educators in your children's lives, we feel that it is important that you have a voice and that, as a school, we are approachable and allocate time to listen to your concerns, worries or thoughts about school.  I hope that you find the information on our website useful - please feel free to contact us should you have any queries or if you would like a tour of the school.

I look forward to welcoming you to our school.
