Y6 Stone Farm Trip
At the Eden Project, we were fortunate enough to miss the rain. Everyone had a great time looking at how different plants can be used for different purposes. We looked at how different leaves can be used for building shelters for medicines and for food.
Wednesday we visited Dartmoor and Lynford Gorge, where experienced guides showed us the sites and explained how the moor has been used over thousands of years. The excellent Dartmoor guides informed the children all about temperate rain forests, which they were lucky to experience yesterday. They learnt about the fauna of the area and how the gorge was formed 300 million years ago. The children were shown the entrance to a Victorian mine. The guides explained how young children were employed to work in the mines. After a short walk, we reached the waterfall and experienced the power and noise of the Whitelady falls. We returned to the farm and played some great team games, table tennis and pool.
In the evenings, we have been enjoying warm wholesome food, followed by activities such as a visit from David Bunkle and his very large birds of prey, falconry where children were able to ask questions and witness some of the birds flying skills. We have all had great fun around the campsite singing songs and enjoying marshmallows.
